We created the EW Run program to enhance your current running experience and to keep you running for life! Our approach is to understand your current and past level of running, including your history of health and injury, training regimen, and running goals. The EW Run team consists of some of the highest skilled clinicians in their field. Mike Eskridge, PT founded the run program in 2000. Since its inception, the EW Run Program has been utilized by Olympians, Collegiate All-Americans, Collegians, High School and recreational runners alike. Understanding the elements of your running that you can control yields confidence and encouragement. The experience is always fun and informative with any level of runner whether it be novice or world class, young, or old. EW Run sessions are hands on, whole-body, and done in a one on one setting.

EW Run – PROGRAM DETAILS

Connect: Each evaluation begins with an interview to discuss your running history, current running status, and your goals. Understanding your past, especially your history of injury will enhance our ability to unlock keys to your structure. Your training regimen, running performance, and goals will be detailed.

Structure: Understanding how your body moves is critical to running success. We incorporate an extensive, hands-on evaluation to assess mobility, flexibility, stability, and posture and then correlate our findings with your movement patterns. This process helps us to better understand critical aspects of your structure that may affect elements of your running such as stride angle. Stride angle determines the amount of ground you can cover per stride.

Stride: Our team will evaluate your stride and its elemental components. Running posture, arm carriage, cadence, and foot strike are assessed. We utilize slow-motion, video analysis to assist our evaluation. The importance of shoe selection will be discussed.

Action: Recommendations will be made to improve your running experience. Sometimes this may be corrective and sometimes not. THE POINT of our evaluation is not to change everything you do but to enhance your running.

EW Consult: You know you need to make some changes in your lifestyle, but don’t know which direction to go. The EW consult is designed to help you find the right direction. Schedule a 30-minute consultation with a Physical Therapist or Motion Specialist to discuss your wellness and health goals. During this conversation, we will touch on the key points involved in your health and well-being. What do you consider your biggest challenges you will face in becoming the person you want to be? This consult will help with direction and assist you in making the best decisions regarding the exercise program that best meets your needs. We will touch on additional wellness topics such as nutrition, sleep, and stress management. This could be 30 minutes that could change your life!

Pilates is simply the best thing that I have discovered for injury prevention. I have been working with Angel at EW Tuscaloosa for Pilates for over two years. As a distance runner, I have been prone to injuries over the years, however, since I started Pilates at EW, I have reduced my injury incidence dramatically. I have found that I have been able to address strength, flexibility and balance all at one time while improving my body awareness and alignment. Angel is an incredible instructor and has a unique ability to communicate technique and get the most out of every exercise! About a year and a half ago, I faced a life-threatening situation when I had a carotid artery dissection. I wanted to continue to exercise during the long recovery and Angel worked with me to maintain my fitness. When I resumed running after 6 months, I did so injury free.
